This course has been updated and can be found on the World Music Method's home page along with tonnes of extra resources including interactive on-screen notation, backing tracks, suggested listening and eBooks covering African musical history.
Continuing on from what you've learnt in Part 1 you'll be introduced to the West African styles of Mbalax and Afro Mandingue Kora music. Part 2 was filmed mainly in Senegal to so you can feel what it's like to work with a live Mbalax band and to discover the wild Sabar drum patterns prevalent in the genre. We'll demonstrate how to accompany a Griot Kora player from the notorious Cissokho family of hereditary musicians in The Casamance region and we'll breakdown African Salsa and learn how to play Tumbao against a clave pattern. Plus we'll recap on what we've covered in Part 1 by looking again at Soukous, Sungura and Zouk.
