Project Management is in a great place right now. And it isn’t going anywhere for a long time. Where projects exist, a PM is needed. It’s not a career for everyone, but those who do choose it (or fall into it), it can be incredibly satisfying. Not to mention, the salary usually isn’t too shabby.
One of the biggest issues with the Project Management world is the mystification of what really goes on behind the scenes, and what a PM does. There are two sides to that coin. Some that think PM’s just sit around and dictate what others do. Others that cloud the PM world in textbook jargon, convoluted process and endless documentation.
Now, don’t get me wrong. Process and protocol are important. Having an understanding of the textbook Project Management fundamentals is something that every PM needs. However, in the real world, there isn’t always time to learn every single thing in the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) before managing your first project. Sometimes you’re thrust into a PM role, and you need to get rolling fast.
