My name is Benjamin Aeilkema and I’m an illustrator and Artist from The Netherlands. I love creating Artworks with all kinds of materials. As many, many other artists, I also find great joy in capturing the beauty of nature in artworks. There is just something very special about it!
But I can also identify with the challenges and struggles many people have shared with me over the past few years. These very same issues I’ve been dealing with in my own works. It can be really frustrating to get stuck along the way and not knowing how to proceed, or how to improve the way you’re going about things.
Nevertheless, I somehow was convinced that I could discover the right techniques to conquer these challenges. And to develop a method that would provide answers and solutions.
You might be surprised to hear that the key I found has everything to do with the way you go about starting a detailed autumn drawing. The key is actually in the way you OBSERVE the item and the choices you make about which parts to focus on.
The secret to success is in training your eye & brain to only observe the APPROPRIATE details at the RIGHT moment of your drawing process. Eliminating everything else enables you to capture exactly what you need at every step along the way.
My method is based upon 3 distinguished steps:
Capture the complicated item in the simplicity of its basic shape
Focus on the RIGHT details and master translating these to your drawing
Finish it with convincing shading (done in an relative easy way)

train your muscle memory in drawing the right shapes
develop simple construction drawings as your springboard to freehand drawing
give compositions your own personal touch
We will be starting out with mastering to draw all the basic shapes needed for that beautiful end project, Once you’re comfortable with the pencil, we’ll move on to the pen. We will be practicing drawing, hatching, shading: an acorn, chestnut, pinecone, trees, bark, branches, leaves, fungus and a toadstool.
No worries, I will break some of these complicated items down into simple to follow along steps for you. You will be amazed at what you can create!
