Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect Exam Tips

1. The GCP Architect exam has a large “DEVOPS wisdom” component to go along with the GCP service/resource memorization/understanding component.

2. While developing a high-level understanding and memorizing certain properties of the different GCP components is important, the focus of the exam is on providing high-level architecture recommendations more so than bombarding you with got Chas and bits of obscure trivia.

3. A well curated practice exam is probably the best resource to acclimate yourself to the exam format.

4. Don’t necessarily choose the answer you think Google wants to hear – the answer isn’t always the bleeding edge, “cloud-first” solution. Choose the best solution that you think the client will be willing to accept, which more often than not will be a lift-and-shift with some narrowly-scoped infrastructure updates.

5. The exam is not really GCP-specific. While I didn’t see any mentions of other cloud providers, there were many questions which were of a general ops/DEVOPS nature and did not mention GCP. These questions were high-level process recommendations (e.g. you won’t be asked how big a class C IP block is, but you might be asked how a major change to a user-facing service could be load/reliability-tested).

6. Many questions boil down to two solutions that are very difficult to choose between. Don’t be too discouraged if your “mark for review” list starts building up early.

7. Take this with a grain of salt, as you aren’t given detailed feedback (PASS/FAIL).
